Thankful Thursday

You knew it would happen eventually…alliteration. English teachers LOVE literary devices. So I present to you Thankful Thursday.

Back in high school, I took Oprah’s advice and started a gratitude journal. I kept it up for a while and still have it but do not write in it anymore.

As a way to resurrect the gratitude journal, I am starting a weekly tradition: Thankful Thursdays!

I am thankful for…
The husband!
Brody puts up with my antics, listens to me snore every night (I fall asleep within one minute of closing my eyes), and loves me and the dogs unconditionally. We met in spite of a mutual friend trying to prevent our relationship from starting and have had a great life together. I am excited to spend the rest of my life with him.

I am thankful for…
Two years ago, Brody and I watched all six seasons of Lost in a few months. Guess what we found on Netflix? Lost! We are working our way through the show again and watching two episodes a night. It is interesting to know what happens and to look for connections or foreshadowing that I missed or didn’t get the first time through.

I am thankful for…
Minestrone soup
I made this soup Sunday afternoon and ate it for lunch everyday. I am not always good about eating enough vegetables, but this was an easy and delicious way to sneak in a couple servings.

I am thankful for…
Iced coffee
Three to four days a week, I drive to the gym at 5:15am. It is a short drive (seven minutes approximately) but those few sips of iced coffee with skim milk give me a little boost. I finish the rest after my workout on my drive to school. Right now Dunkin Donuts pumpkin spice coffee fills my mug and it compliments overnight oats quite well.

I am thankful for…
Midnight in Paris
Brody and I watched this movie a few weeks ago and loved it. As you may know, I am teaching The Great Gatsby and reading The Sun Also Rises independently. This time period fascinates me, as it does the main character (played by Owen Wilson) in Midnight in Paris. I bought this film from Amazon and can’t wait to watch it again. I also plan to show my juniors the part of the film when Owen Wilson’s character meets Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, and various artists.

I am thankful for…
Moose and Frankie
My dogs are awesome. They have such distinct personalities, and they add a lot to my life. I love them even when they poop on the floor (ah hem…Frankie) or when they run across the street to the field and do not come back until I bring the car over and pretend like we are going somewhere (yup, that would be Moose).

It feels good to reflect and appreciate the little and big things in life. Give it a try!

What are you thankful for?
(sounds like Thanksgiving, doesn’t it?)
